3 ways to support local farms

It is a great passion of mine to talk about ways to support your local farmers. When you support your local farms, you support a resilient food supply system. When you support local farms, you support a food supply system that inherently creates much healthier food.

#1 Get to know your Farmer. Wouldn’t it be cool to visit a local farm on a Saturday to show your kids where their food comes from? Many farmers love the opportunity to show families around on their farm. Ask the farmer questions that are important to you. Questions that answer your biggest concerns relating to industrial farming. Get to know your farmer so you can trust your food.

#2 Ask the farmer if he would be willing to produce your next meal for you. Ask him if he can raise livestock for you so that you can have it processed. Choosing your local farmer over the big chain grocery stores puts more money into the local economy.

#3 The third step is where Weaver Meat Processing comes into play. We will process the livestock from the farm of your choosing. Either you or your farmer will contact WMP and be scheduled to have your livestock processed like you want it processed.

Weaver Meat Processing

Our family has been passionately involved in the custom meat processing business since 1992. Eli Weaver founded Weaver Deer Processing located in Dallas County, Alabama in the fall of 1992. In 2002, Weaver Deer Processing expanded operations to include custom processing of beef and hogs.

In 1997, Leonard Weaver carried on his father’s legacy when he moved to North Alabama and built an all comprehensive butcher shop called Weaver Meat Processing to process animals from start to finish. Deer processing production quickly rose to over 2000 deer per year.

Our facility has the ability to make value added fresh products and smoked products all in house. We have since built several additions to our facility as our loyal customer base has grown over the years. Our deer processing production has grown to the point where we process 3000+ deer per season. We also do custom processing of beef and hogs in the spring and fall of each year.
